As I have always had the "bug" for spots, when the time came for us to chase one of my dreams, Appaloosas were the first choice. I, however, wanted the foundation lines as that is what I grew up with. I have had numerous other breeds of horses in my life, but found the foundation Appaloosa to be the most thrifty, hardy, willing group of horses.
The first Appaloosa we bought was Tuff Built Legacy, ApHC #630316. He became my stallion of choice, when I saw him at the ripe age of 9 days. Why? Well, I won't deny I love the classic blanket pattern and the black coat color was fabulous. Even with that first reaction, I researched his pedigree. I was very pleased...old-time greats like Joker B., Cooterville Crawfish, Cooterville Mackeys Pride, J&B's Spotted Fawn, Double Six Domino, Mansfields Comanche, Hayes Roman Cloud, Hubbard's Chico, and Sundance 500. I then began read alot about Dick Foster and his goals with Deacons Dude. I was thrilled to see he was Tuff's maternal grandsire.
Tuff came to us upon weaning, moved with us to our present farm, showed he can be successful in the show ring, started roping dummy cattle three days after being under saddle, sired his first foal this past spring, and is waiting for us to to showcase his talents under saddle in the near future. We are standing him to the the outside public with shipped semen for the 2009 breeding season.
